1. What made you start learning Korean?
I started learning Korean because I developed a strong interest in the language through teaching English to Korean students. Learning Korean has given me a deeper understanding of grammar and sentence structure, which has helped me become a better English teacher. Understanding how both languages work allows me to explain concepts more clearly and relate to the difficulties Korean learners often experience.
2. How was your experience with Seoul X On?
Although I wasn't able to complete all of my classes due to being away on weekends, the classes I did attend were a fantastic experience. Hanju is an excellent tutor who was incredibly patient whenever I struggled with new concepts. She explains things in a clear and easy-to-understand way, which made learning much more enjoyable. I especially appreciated how she went beyond the textbook by teaching me additional vocabulary and useful expressions that weren't included in the course material. She also taught me encouraging phrases that I can use with my junior students, such as "Jalhaesseo" ("Well done"), which I found both practical and rewarding. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my lessons and would highly recommend Hanju as a tutor.
3. What's the biggest change in your Korean since you started?
Since I started learning Korean, I have been spending more time practicing and using new words in everyday situations. As a result, my vocabulary has grown significantly, and I can now form and use simple sentences that I wasn't able to say before. Learning Korean has given me more confidence in communicating and has motivated me to continue improving my language skills.
4. Who would you recommend Seoul X On to?
I would highly recommend Seoul X on to anyone interested in learning about Korean culture or who is a fan of K-pop. I would also recommend it to people who work with Koreans or are planning to travel to Korea for business or holidays. Having a basic understanding of the language, including honorifics and the differences between formal and informal speech, is incredibly valuable and can help you communicate more effectively and show respect in different social situations.
